Visualizing Diffusion-Weighted MRI Data Using Collaborative Virtual Environment and Grid Technologies
نویسندگان
چکیده
We describe a collaborative virtual environment system for visualization of diffusion magnetic resonance imaging scans. The system represents the 3D data by arrays of polyhedra, coloured by the degree of anisotropy and directed by the principal component of the diffusion tensor. Users can then collaboratively explore the data and interactively spawn tractography procesess that compute tracks that depict white matter fibre pathways through the brain. These tracks are computed on a Grid service currently supporting 72 nodes on a Beowulf cluster.

Collaborative Virtual Laboratory for e-Health
This paper describes the Virtual Laboratory for e-Health system which is currently being developed in the EU IST ViroLab project. The Virtual Laboratory is an environment that enables clinical researchers to prepare and execute computing experiments using a distributed Grid infrastructure, while not requiring in-depth Grid computing technologies knowledge. By virtualizing the hardware, computin...
متن کاملToward Application of Virtual Reality to Visualization of DT-MRI Volumes
We describe a virtual reality application for visualizing tensorvalued volume data acquired with diffusion tensor magnetic resonance imaging (DT-MRI). We have prototyped a virtual environment that displays geometric representations of the volumetric 2nd-order diffusion tensor data and are developing interaction and visualization techniques for two application areas: studying changes in white-ma...
متن کاملOn the Creation of a Unified Modeling Language Based Collaborative Virtual Assembly/disassembly System
Design For Assembly/disassembly (DFA) allows systematic evaluations and analysis of product assembly and disassembly during the product design stage with the goal of reducing assembly costs, improving quality and shortening time to market. These evaluations include assemblability, disassemblability, part accessibility, and part layout [1]. With the growing availability and widespread use of hig...
متن کاملDynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
متن کاملTowards a Collaborative Orthopaedic Research Environment
Until recently, it has been the case that scientific findings are captured, summarized, and shared through manuscripts. Nevertheless, the practices of science have already been affected dramatically by Web technologies. Virtual learning and research environments have typically been implemented as monolithic systems in the past. Collaborative Orthopaedic Research Environment (CORE) is a Virtual ...
